Nurse Shanita Scotland is the Chair/cofounder is Certified Legal Nurse Consultant with over 10yrs of clinical experience in the fields of critical care, Pediatrics, emergency, wound care, sexual assault examiner, trauma, spinal cord injury, disaster relief, nurse educator and end of life care nursing. Currently she is a Pediatric ER and PICU nurse and an adjunct pediatric Clinical nursing professor at LIU- Brooklyn campus. Privately she works a concierge flight nurse.
She began volunteering while she was a student at LIU-Brooklyn School of Nursing where she was chosen for two missions to Sierra Leone with former LIU SON, Dean Kiltz. Additionally, she volunteered in missions in the US, Kenya and Haiti. She was a volunteer with the NY Red Cross helping with wound care, evacuation and caring for the elderly in Far Rockaway post hurricane Sandy in 2012. Ms. Scotland had been involved in providing Disaster Relief to Dominica after tropical Storm Ericka in 2015 and was one of the coordinators for successful Medical Mission trips to Dominica post hurricane Maria 2017 with another nurse who was also from Dominica living in Texas. That group took the pirate boat from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, from St. Lucia to Dominica, with medical equipment, medications, doctors and nurses to go save lives in Dominica. Her extraordinary philanthropy led to her to be chosen as a Delegate for the Clinton Global Action Network on Post-Disaster Recovery, 2018.
A frequent keynote speaker, Scotland has addressed global audiences at the Clinton global conference, OECS health ministerial meeting and served as the Caribbean consultant for Black History Festival which works in partnership with the African Union Ambassador to the Americas and the Ghanaian President office of diasporas.
Shanita’s achievements include LIU Who’s Who Among students in American Universities and colleges inductees. She was a recipient of the Caribbean American Healthcare awards and a Beacon award with recognition by US House of Representatives member, Hakeem Jefferies for her outstanding contribution to the improvement of healthcare in New York.
When she gets out of the scrubs nurse Scotland prioritizes Selfcare and is a holistic health coach who invites people to visit her beautiful island of Dominica for rejuvenation trips. She loves the outdoors, dancing, hiking, yoga and eating mangoes.
